Afternoon of Hope | A Pink Christmas in April
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the Donelson Branch Library was filled with warmth, style, and sisterhood as guests gathered for Afternoon of Hope—a breast cancer awareness and self-care event. Sponsored by Ally, the event brought together community leaders, wellness experts, survivors, and supporters for an afternoon of inspiration, empowerment, and connection.
The day began with a heartfelt welcome from Sonja Hopkins, followed by opening remarks from News Channel 4’s Danielle Ledbetter, who also served as the emcee for the event. Her energy and grace guided attendees through a beautifully curated program.
A thought-provoking panel discussion, “Empowering Self-Care: Taking Care of the Whole Woman,” featured voices from across the wellness spectrum—including medical, nutritional, fitness, and holistic perspectives. The conversation provided practical insights on prioritizing self-care and wellness, especially in communities where access and awareness are limited.
Angel Tennelle, author, comedian and keynote speaker, delivered a moving message focused on “the strong one”—the woman who carries the weight of everyone else while needing space to heal and be seen herself. Her words deeply resonated with the audience, offering both encouragement and a call to intentional self-nourishment.
The day also featured the presentation of the Mother’s Day Award, light refreshments, raffles, and thoughtful giveaways including a luxurious Brahmin purse—adding an extra sparkle to an already unforgettable gathering.
The fashion show, presented in two parts by Dillard’s, added a layer of beauty and bold expression. The grand finale was a true showstopper—a stunning custom-designed piece by TSU graduate and fashion designer Angela Majors, modeled by event co-chair Deondra Donald. The crowd erupted in cheers, celebrating both the artistry and the message of empowerment it represented.
Afternoon of Hope was more than an event. It was a movement—a celebration of life, love, and the power of women supporting women. Through shared stories, powerful visuals, and meaningful conversations, the day reminded every guest that hope is always in season.
